How we measure

Counted with the rigour our partners require.

The figures below cover the strategic window from 2019 to 2023. They are reported using the international standard indicators (ITNs distributed, Couple-Years of Protection, Unintended Pregnancies Averted, and DALYs Averted) used by the donor community, audited annually, and reviewed by the SFH Board of Trustees.

Key Achievements (2019 to 2023)

  • 52,493,522ITNs Distributed
  • 4,921,058CYPs
  • 1,988,547Unintended Pregnancies Averted
  • 18,816,369DALYs Averted
What the numbers mean

Behind every figure, a family choosing a healthier future.

The metrics are international, but the work is local: ITNs hung over beds in rural Kaduna, family planning consultations in Lagos, malaria treatment at last-mile clinics in Sokoto, and adolescent health sessions in classrooms from Cross River to Borno.

  1. 52.5 million ITNs distributed.

Long-lasting insecticidal nets handed to families across every state and the FCT, the single most cost-effective malaria prevention tool we have at scale.

  2. 4.9 million couple-years of protection.

Family planning commodities and counselling delivered to women and couples, expressed in the international CYP unit used by donors and ministries of health.

  3. 2.0 million unintended pregnancies averted.

The downstream impact of those CYPs, calculated using standard demographic modelling, expressed as pregnancies women and couples chose to defer or avoid.

  4. 18.8 million DALYs averted.

Disability-Adjusted Life Years saved across all SFH Nigeria programmes, the integrated population-level measure of healthier years returned to Nigerian families.
