Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Lagos
Ongoing
The Pathway to Malaria Pre-Elimination and Digitization Project in Lagos State is a component of the Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) initiative, funded by the Lagos State Government through World Bank credit. The project aims to position Lagos on the path to malaria pre-elimination by expanding access to quality case management and accelerating digital reporting. It leverages partnerships with Community Pharmacists (CPs) and Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) across all 20 LGAs.
Key Approach and Objectives
The grant will deliver services through four core objectives:
• Enhance Diagnostic Accuracy: Evaluate and improve the reliability of Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) compared to microscopy to ensure accurate malaria detection and reduce misdiagnosis across public and private sectors.
• Strengthen Case Management Protocols: Develop, refine, and standardize malaria treatment protocols informed by project findings to promote evidence-based care and improve patient outcomes.
• Implement a Robust M&E Framework: Establish a joint monitoring and evaluation system to track project progress, assess impact, and support adaptive learning using real-time data.
• Advance Malaria Pre-Elimination in Lagos: Address diagnostic and treatment gaps through strategic interventions, positioning Lagos State toward achieving malaria pre-elimination.

Notable Achievements / Success Metrics
The project trained 22 Quality Assurance Officers across all Lagos LGAs on standardized data collection and provider engagement protocols. A baseline assessment was conducted across 908 service provider facilities to evaluate their readiness for training in malaria case management and digital reporting. To foster collaboration and commitment, stakeholder meetings were held with regulatory and professional bodies including PCN, ACPN, NAPPMED, and LSMDA. Additionally, six Master Trainers were equipped to deliver cascade trainings, resulting in the training of 426 CPs and PPMVs. Of these, 388 providers were deemed eligible for onboarding into the project, marking a critical step toward improving private sector capacity for malaria control in Lagos State.
Project Status
The project is currently ongoing, with implementation scheduled from January 2025 through November 2025.
