Adolescents360 (A360)

Ongoing
The goal of A360 project is to break down barriers to access and voluntary use of modern contraceptives by adolescent girls aged 15–19, thereby increasing the modern contraceptive prevalence rate (mCPR) and improving the sexual reproductive health of adolescents. The first phase of the project was between 2016 and 2021. Currently in its second investment phase called A360 Amplify, the project implementation is anchored on three strategic pillars:
• Strategic adaptations to increase program impact at the client/user level.
• Institutionalization and government-led scale to ensure that A360’s interventions are sustained beyond the life of the investment.
• Generate and disseminate evidence to address key gaps in policy and practice (globally and locally).

The project implements the Matasa Matan Arewa (MMA) in Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa and Nasarawa states and supports the 9Ja Girls’ programme in Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Lagos states.

Key Achievements:
  • Cumulatively, A360 has enabled over 1.4 million adolescent and young women access to modern contraceptive methods, 910,866 of whom are first-time contraceptive users across northern and southern Nigeria.
  • In 2024, A360 successfully piloted an adolescent-focused MNCH adaptation by improving access to ANC, health facility births, and PPFP uptake by married adolescent girls. Results from an external evaluation reveal over 90% conversion rates from pre-ANC to ANC and over 70% retention for follow-up care across trimesters. In partnership with the government, this high-impact solution is currently being scaled across MMA supported states.
  • Through her impactful economic empowerment strategies like Optimized Life Family and Health and 9Ja Girls programmes, A360 continues to contribute to Nigeria human capital development, with over 400,000 empowered with skills and IGAs that drive financial autonomy.
  • By December 2024, through her technical assistance approach, A360 had expanded the Matasa Matan Arewa programme to 1,475 PHCs across northern Nigeria thereby strengthening the health systems capacity for young peoples’ SRH and MNCH programming.
  • About 700,000 husbands/partners of adolescent girls have been engaged in fostering support and enablement for adolescent girls access to SRH and MNCH services.
  • Notably, the A360 project successfully birthed four other projects within SFH and one in Kenya, all replicating different components of our high-impact solutions and expanding quality ASRH and Girl Capital interventions.
