Challenge Facility for Civil Society

Closed

The Challenge Facility for Civil Society aims to improve child TB programming, care, and support through enhancing the capacity and resilience of TB survivors and community facilitators to challenge the status quo through effective community activism and advocacy

The SFH strategy in combating childhood TB is to upscale and strengthen the capacity of TB survivors and community facilitators on advocacy, activism, and community mobilisation, enhancing their competence and resilience to serve as community activists and monitors on TB issues in Kano State.
Support institutional strengthening of community advocate sub-grantee groups through the provision of sub-grants, mentoring, supervision, and instituting administrative systems and structures that will enhance their operation and integration into the broader Stop TB Nigeria programme network.

Implementation Locations: The project is implemented in 10 LGAs in Kano state, which include Dala, Gwale, Fagge, Taurani, Nasarawa, Kumbutso, Wudil, Sumaila, D/Tofa, and Ungogo.

Notable Achievements/Success
Making Healthcare Accessible: Healthcare services have been made accessible through TB survivors forum engagement across communities, which has increased demand for TB services in the state. This is a testament to the fact that community-led monitoring and social accountability put the communities at the center of decision-making by influencing and improving demand and access to essential TB services among vulnerable and underserved communities. A random sample measured in one quarter records 621 walk-in clients, and 27 TB cases were identified and commenced on TB drugs across 4 facilities in Fagge, Nassarawa, Dala and Gwale local government areas.
