Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) ITN Campaign and Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM)

Ongoing
The AMF and the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) funded ITN distribution campaigns implemented across five GHSC-PSM-supported states: Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Zamfara, and Plateau, with SFH engaged as the campaign monitoring partner. Monitoring activities assessed campaign planning, distribution processes, and compliance with national malaria control guidelines. Additionally, AMF funded SFH to conduct Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) in Akwa Ibom and Benue States to evaluate household-level ITN usage and net condition at 9, 18, and 27 months post-ITN distribution.
Key Approach and Objectives
The project adopts a two-pronged monitoring approach: Campaign Monitoring and Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM). Campaign Monitoring evaluates key aspects of the ITN distribution process, including planning, STOT, logistics, and delivery to households, against national standards and universal coverage targets. PDM involves household-level data collection from 1.5% of benefiting households across all LGAs in each of the two states, assessing ITN presence, usage, and condition, while also providing health education. Together, these components generate evidence-based insights to improve future ITN campaigns and reinforce malaria prevention strategies.
Notable Achievements / Success Metrics
The project successfully monitored ITN campaigns in five states, overseeing the distribution of over 17 million nets. Over 40 warehouse assessments were completed, and ITN movement was tracked across 50+ LGAs. Field spot checks were conducted during household registration and distribution. More than 71,000 households and 2,897 villages were visited, 147,450 nets assessed, and 2,786 advocacy visits conducted, including in remote areas. In Akwa Ibom, three PDM cycles recorded 98% completion rate, average ITN coverage of 31,075 HH members, with 83.7% net use, and 72.22% of nets in good condition. In Benue, the first PDM cycle reached 95% completion rate with 67,873 ITN coverage of HH members, with 89.17% net use, and 77.62% in good condition. The second cycle in Benue is ongoing.
Project Status
The project is ongoing, with the second PDM cycle (PDM-18) currently being implemented in Benue State.
