Restoring Hope, Ensuring Access: SFH Leads Emergency Harm Reduction Response in Oyo State
In the face of the sudden disruption in harm reduction services in Oyo State, the public health risks escalated, increasing the danger of Hepatitis C virus and other blood-borne viruses transmission among People Who Inject Drugs (PWID). Rising to this challenge, Society for Family Health (SFH) took a swift and strategic action by organizing an Emergency Roundtable Meeting in partnership with the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA), bringing together government stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, health institutions, civil society, and representatives of the PWID community. This strategic meeting resulted in the development of a State Master Action Plan and Roadmap to ensure service continuity and restore harm reduction activities across the state.
The government, stakeholders, and partners reached a renewed commitment to ensure uninterrupted service delivery, mapped priority areas for outreach, and established clear roles for partners. This coordinated response reflects SFH’s leadership under its 2024 – 2030 “Beyond Boundaries” strategy, including advancing universal healthcare access through government and partner engagement and solidifying SFH’s role as a thought leader in public health. SFH remains committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against Hepatitis C and other bloodborne viruses. Together with the government, communities, and partners, we are rebuilding access, restoring dignity, and redefining what’s possible for harm reduction in Nigeria.

PACS Refines Data Collection Tools to Drive Readiness for Logistics Assessment
The Promoting Accreditation for Community Health Services (PACS) project has commenced the field pre-test of its digital data collection tool in preparation for the upcoming trend logistics assessment. This important exercise is focused on refining the KoboCollect-based tool designed to collect logistics data from Community Pharmacists (CPs) and Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) in Kaduna and Lagos states. The goal is to ensure the tool performs optimally in real-world conditions, capturing accurate, relevant, and easy-to-analyse data. This pre-test marks a key milestone in evaluating PACS’ efforts to improve access to quality health commodities at the community level. It builds on the baseline logistics assessment conducted in March 2024, setting the stage for a comprehensive analysis of themes such as stock availability, sourcing practices, inventory management, stock-out frequency, and revenue trends. These indicators are crucial for understanding the effectiveness of supply systems that serve community health providers.

SFH Engage Stakeholders for 2025 ITN Mass Distribution Campaign in Delta State
In preparation for the 2025 Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITN) Mass Distribution Campaign in Delta State, Society for Family Health (SFH), with support from the Global Fund, has commenced robust stakeholder engagement sessions to ensure broad-based awareness, ownership, and community participation. The campaign, scheduled to run from 22nd April to 4th June 2025, will see the distribution of lifesaving mosquito nets to households across the state. Mr. John Ocholi, Project Director of the Global Fund Malaria Project at SFH, and Dr Julie Anniah, Delta State Programme Manager of the State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP), led the stakeholder engagement sessions targeted at key actors, including local government chairmen, media representatives, security agencies, religious leaders, and traditional rulers. The stakeholder meetings provided a platform to sensitise community influencers on the importance of the ITN campaign in reducing malaria transmission and protecting households, especially vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and children under five. Mr. Ocholi emphasised the need for collective responsibility, noting that the campaign’s success hinges on the active involvement of local actors and the trust of the communities they serve.
He said, “Ownership at the grassroots level is critical to the success of the campaign,” and called on all leaders to mobilise their communities and promote net use for effective malaria prevention. Dr Anniah expressed appreciation for the partnership with SFH and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to achieving high household coverage and utilisation. She noted that active involvement of community gatekeepers will be vital during household mobilisation (8th–15th April) and the net distribution phase (26th–30th May). The engagement sessions were well received, with stakeholders pledging their support to raise awareness, provide security coverage, and promote positive behavioural change in their communities. With a strong foundation of collaboration now laid, Delta State is positioned for a successful ITN campaign that will protect millions of residents from malaria. With a strong sense of partnership and renewed stakeholder commitment, Delta State is poised to achieve high coverage and utilisation rates during the upcoming ITN distribution campaign, marking another significant step in Nigeria’s journey toward malaria elimination.

SFH Epharma4FP project participates in Youth and Governance Symposium in Lagos State
On April 12, 2025, ePharma4FP partnered with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, and other key stakeholders to engage over 5,000 young people during the Youth and Governance Symposium held at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. This high-impact event was strategically designed to integrate youth civic engagement with access to reproductive health education and services. Themed “Youth in Governance: Building a Foundation for Sustainable Development,” the symposium convened a mix of undergraduates, youth leaders (including Mobolaji Ogunlende, Hon. Commissioner for Youth and Social Development), community-based and faith-based organisations, and policymakers. The forum enabled a vibrant exchange of ideas, mentorship, and actionable pathways to empower youth through informed choices. As part of our demand generation strategy, ePharma4FP utilised its digital platform to offer real-time, tech-enabled access to family planning (FP) products & services. Through the HealthPlus ePharmacy platform, participants were able to engage with FP information and service linkages during and after the event.
In addition, vital sign checks, including blood pressure tests and weight checks, were provided onsite, creating a comprehensive wellness touchpoint that combined preventive health checks with digital service access. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to ensuring that young people, particularly women, have the knowledge, tools, and confidence to protect themselves from unplanned pregnancies. By integrating FP service delivery into youth-centered platforms and events, we not only meet young people where they are but also position ePharma4FP as a credible, youth-friendly digital health access point. During this activity, we recorded these key achievements: 5 packs of oral contraceptives were sold online, through unassisted engagement with the digital platform, 169 confirmed clicks recorded to the HealthPlus website, driven by our digital outreach and QR code activation during the event, Over 170 packs of condoms distributed. Through this engagement, we amplified awareness of reproductive health options and directed youth toward our digital service delivery platform for informed decision-making. This activity reinforces our commitment to leveraging both offline mobilisation and online intervention tools to meet young people where they are, empowering them with knowledge and access to quality FP products and services.
