With Support from the IntegratE Project, Kaduna State Validates and Disseminates Sixth Edition of Essential Medicines List

The IntegratE Project in Kaduna State has supported the review, validation, and dissemination of the sixth edition of the Essential Medicines List (EML). The EML serves as a crucial reference for healthcare providers, policymakers, and procurement agencies, ensuring the availability, accessibility, and appropriate use of essential medicines across the healthcare system.

The Objectives of the activity were to ensure healthcare providers, including doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, have access to updated information on essential medicines, facilitate the procurement and distribution of essential medicines, educate policymakers and regulatory bodies on the revised medicine list to enhance compliance and implementation and foster collaboration between healthcare institutions, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in medicine distribution.
The dissemination meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Kaduna State University, teaching hospitals, primary healthcare facilities, the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and its agencies, as well as development and implementing partners such as Society for Family Health (SFH), the Gates Foundation, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Natview, and other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) within the state.
In her remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for health, Kaduna State Hajiya Umma Kaltume Ahmed, acknowledged the contributions of development partners in improving health outcomes in Kaduna State. She commended the State Government, through the Ministry of Health, for fostering an enabling environment for all healthcare stakeholders. She further emphasised that the review and dissemination of the EML represent a significant milestone in ensuring Kaduna State aligns with global best practices in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Nasarawa State Launches Family Planning Costed Implementation Plan (2025–2029)

The Nasarawa State Ministry of Health has officially launched the Family Planning Costed Implementation Plan (CIP) 2025–2029, reaffirming the state’s commitment to improving access to modern contraceptives and reducing maternal mortality. The launch was performed by Dr John Damina Ali, the Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health.

Developed with technical and financial support from Society for Family Health (SFH) through the A360 Amplify Project, the Family Planning Costed Implementation Plan provides a strategic roadmap for scaling up family planning interventions in the state. The plan outlines clear financial commitments and implementation strategies to enhance the modern contraceptive prevalence rate (mCPR) over the next five years.
The launch event brought together key stakeholders, including Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Women Affairs and Social Development and Youths and Sports, alongside directors from the Ministries of Health, Women Affairs, Education, and the Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NAPHDA). Also in attendance was the Head of the Gender, Adolescent, School Health, and Elderly (GASHE) Unit from the Federal Ministry of Health, along with representatives from implementing partners working to advance reproductive health in the state.
The event also had strong representation from community and religious leaders, including the State Ward Development Committee (WDC) Chairman, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman, and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) Chairman.

SFH Kicks Off Communications Roadshow with Insightful Session on Global Brand Guidelines

Society for Family Health (SFH) has successfully launched its Communications Roadshow, an initiative aimed at reinforcing brand consistency and effective communication across all levels of the organisation. The first session, held on 3rd April 2025, focused on the SFH Global Brand Book, offering staff members a detailed understanding of branding principles, logo usage, and communication visibility strategies.

Hosted virtually via Microsoft Teams, the session was led by Oshioke Abu, who provided an in-depth breakdown of SFH’s global brand identity and the key elements that define it. Emphasising that a brand is more than just a logo rather it is the sum of a company, product, or person’s identity and reputation, encompassing everything from its name, logo, and visual elements to the overall experience and perception it evokes in the minds of its audience.
The session explored how SFH’s visual and verbal identity contributes to its credibility and recognition. Dr Jennifer Anyanti, SFH’s DMD Strategy, Technical, and Growth, also stressed that branding is life as it affects our personal and organisational visibility.  She encouraged everyone to anticipate monthly sessions as the role of effective communication in necessary in strengthening the organisation’s reputation and ensuring alignment with its mission and values.
The discussion underscored the importance of consistent branding and the correct use of the SFH logo, colours, and typography across all communication materials. Staff were reminded that the SFH logo, consisting of both an emblem and a logotype, must always be used together to maintain brand integrity. Concerns were raised about the diminished visibility of the SFH brand in project materials, particularly where donor logos overshadow SFH’s identity. The communications team assured participants that clearer branding guidelines would be deployed to ensure SFH remains prominently represented across all project communications. Additionally, the session emphasised the need to incorporate SFH branding in internal documents to reinforce organisational identity and strengthen recognition at all levels.
The Communications Roadshow will continue with additional sessions designed to enhance staff understanding of branding principles. The communications team encouraged all staff members to review the SFH Brand Book, available on Teams repository, and provide feedback to refine branding efforts. SFH remains committed to building a strong, unified brand that accurately reflects its mission and values.
