SFH presents Intentionality to Bill Gates

It was an honour for us to engage in a one-on-one conversation with the co-founder of the Gates Foundation and his team. We are deeply inspired by his unwavering belief in Africa’s potential and his extraordinary commitment to improving lives across the continent. During this meeting, we had the privilege of presenting our 40th-anniversary commemorative book, Intentionality, a reflection of SFH four-decade journey of impact, innovation, and partnerships in advancing health outcomes in Nigeria.

We were humbled by his commendation of our work, which is proudly featured in the publication. For nearly 20 years, SFH and the Gates Foundation have partnered closely to champion health and development in Nigeria. Our shared vision remains steadfast, and we look forward to building on this collaboration to accelerate progress and drive lasting change. The world is better because of Bill Gates’ insight, vision, and enduring support for communities like ours.

SFH Access at Ojude Oba 2025: Celebrating Heritage, Championing Access

At this year’s prestigious Ojude Oba Festival, SFH Access proudly showcased our flagship brand, Gold Circle Condom, reaffirming our commitment to protection, choice, and healthy lifestyles in ways that resonate with everyday Nigerians. Amid the rich cultural celebration, Gold Circle stood out as a trusted symbol of empowerment encouraging bold and informed decisions around sexual and reproductive health. Our vibrant brand ambassador, Tayo Faniran, brought energy, relatability, and a strong voice to the importance of safe sex and responsibility, especially among young people.

We are also proud to spotlight AccessCare, SFH Access’ digital health service, not just as a platform for telemedicine, but through on-ground healthcare support at the event. During a stampede incident, some attendees experienced severe breathing difficulties, and our team was able to respond swiftly, providing critical care and ensuring their safety and comfort. At SFH Access, we believe heritage and health go hand in hand. Our presence at Ojude Oba wasn’t just about visibility, it was about service, connection, and showing up for communities where it truly matters.

SFH attends Gates Foundation Goal Keepers Event
Last week, SFH had the honour of attending the Gates Foundation Goalkeepers event, themed “The Future of Progress: Africa in Motion.” This powerful gathering spotlighted partnership and resilience driving progress across Africa, through health innovation, education, storytelling, and technology development. Visionaries like Bill Gates, Aliko Dangote, and a host of homegrown changemakers came together to share ideas, challenge the status quo, and reinforce the truth that Africa is not waiting to be saved; it is rising to lead.
Africa in Motion, a Gates Foundation initiative under the Goalkeepers programme, celebrates African brilliance and the changemakers reshaping our future. At SFH, we are proud to be part of this wave of transformation, working every day to advance access to healthcare, leverage digital solutions, and empower communities towards Health For All.

Launch of the Partnership to Eliminate Cervical Cancer in Nigeria (PECCiN)

Society for Family Health took part in the launch of the Partnership to Eliminate Cervical Cancer in Nigeria (PECCiN). This partnership, which was launched by the wife of the President, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, at the Presidential Villa, heralded the presentation of two documents to support the drive for cervical cancer elimination in Nigeria. The first document was the National Plan for Cervical Cancer Elimination in Nigeria 2026-2030. This document consisted of technical and economic frameworks as well as the Theory of Change, Strategic Results Framework, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Knowledge Management. The second document was a costed implementation plan which looked at the cost of the Nigeria Cervical Cancer Elimination Plan as well as the comprehensive summary of cancer intervention costs and primary, secondary and tertiary prevention cost estimates.

SFH made significant contributions to the development of these two documents and was represented at the launch by the Alt Lead RMNCHAE+N Cone Dr. Ezechukwu Ikenna Nwokoma. Also present at the occasion were members of the Nigerian Governor’s Forum, Commissioners of Health from the 36 states, Top government functionaries, WHO, FMOHSW, NICRAT, NPHCDA, CHAI, FHI360, Roche, Unitaid, MSD, Gates Foundation, PSHAN, among others. With the launch of this new partnership, a clear roadmap has been set for a guided and well-coordinated elimination of cervical cancer in Nigeria while anchoring on the global strategy of 90-70-90 targets by 2030. 90% of girls are fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by age 15, 70% of women are screened with a high-performance test at least twice in their lifetime (at ages 35 and 45), and 90% of women identified with cervical cancer receive appropriate treatment and care.

IntegratE Project 2.0 holds Medical Outreach in Yobe State

To improve access to essential health services in underserved communities, the IntegratE Project in Yobe State recently conducted a three-day medical outreach in the Dogonini and Yindiski communities of Dogonini Ward, Potiskum Local Government Area. The outreach was led by Tier 2 Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs), Mr Sanusi Ya’u and Mr Ali Sule, with support from the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED) and the Ward Development Committee (WDC). This intervention aimed to address common childhood illnesses and expand access to family planning (FP) services for women in areas where regular healthcare remains limited. Over the course of three days, a total of 359 children were treated for malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhoea, in accordance with the Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) guidelines. In addition, 127 women of reproductive age received personalised counselling and a variety of family planning services, including oral contraceptive pills, injectables, implants, and condoms tailored to each woman’s health needs and preferences. To ensure continuity of care for individuals with more complex health conditions, 30 clients were referred to Musa Baba Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Potiskum for advanced treatment and follow-up.

The outreach was closely supervised by project staff, in collaboration with the State Reproductive Health Coordinator and the iCCM Coordinator, who ensured adherence to clinical protocols and proper documentation. This oversight was vital to maintaining the quality and safety of services provided. Strong community mobilisation played a pivotal role in the outreach’s success. Local leaders, including Ward Development Committee members, traditional and religious leaders, and community volunteers were instrumental in raising awareness, coordinating logistics, and encouraging community participation. Their involvement helped foster trust and ensured the outreach was culturally appropriate and widely accepted. Community members expressed heartfelt appreciation for the initiative, emphasising how valuable it was to have essential health services brought directly to their doorsteps, especially in an area where access to routine care remains a major challenge. The IntegratE Yobe team remains committed to ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.
