Invitation to Submit Proposals from CBOs

                SOCIETY FOR FAMILY HEALTH

INVITATION TO SUBMIT PROPOSAL ON YOUTH HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT, NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES (NCD) AND WATER PROGRAMMING

Society for Family Health (SFH) invites proposals from community based organisations (CBOs) and youth led organisations in the following focus countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia for projects aimed at addressing critical health and development challenges in the areas of youth health and development, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and water and sanitation programming. These focus areas are crucial to SFH commitment to improving public health outcomes, reducing inequalities, and fostering sustainable development in West Africa.

With the continent’s growing youth population, addressing the health and development needs of young people, particularly in marginalised communities, is essential. Society for Family Health (SFH) seeks proposals from organisations in three key areas:

Youth Health and Development:

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): Programmes should focus on reducing teenage pregnancies, improving access to contraception, and promoting safe sexual practices through digital tools and peer learning.
  • Mental Health: Proposals should address mental health stigma, provide counselling, and promote youth-friendly mental health services within schools and centres.
  • Life Skills and Empowerment: Programmes should offer financial literacy, vocational training, and leadership skills, integrating SRHR and mental health support for a holistic youth development approach.
  • Climate Change Awareness and Resilience: With climate change increasingly affecting health and livelihoods, programmes should educate youth on the impacts of climate change and foster resilience.

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs):

SFH aims to reduce the burden of NCDs like hypertension and diabetes. Proposals should include awareness campaigns using community health workers (especially those in the pharma PHC area such as community pharmacists and PPMVs) and media, community-based screening services, and long-term patient management using digital technology to ensure sustainability.

Water Programming (WASH):

Proposals should address access to clean potable water through infrastructure projects, improve water quality with treatment solutions, and promote sustainable water management practices. Emphasis should be on community-led approaches and behaviour change communication to combat waterborne diseases and enhance environmental sustainability.

Objective:
The objective of this Shortlisting Process is to identify and support innovative community-based projects that address critical public health and development challenges in Nigeria. Through this initiative, Society for Family Health (SFH) aims to enhance health outcomes, reduce inequalities, and promote sustainable development by engaging organisations across three key areas: Youth Health and Development, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and Water Programming.Scope of Work:
The selected CBOs will develop and implement interventions in the following areas:

  1. Programmes will address sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), mental health, and life skills education to empower young people, especially those in marginalised communities.
  2. CBOs will focus on prevention, early detection, and management of NCDs through awareness campaigns, community-based screening services, and chronic disease management strategies.
  3. Proposals will target water access, quality improvement, and sustainable water management through infrastructure development, hygiene promotion, and climate-sensitive interventions.

Funding and Evaluation

This call for proposals is part of SFH internal funding programme to support innovative and impactful community-based projects. Selected CBOs will receive financial support to implement their proposed projects as well as institutional support in the area of coaching. Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Alignment with SFH’s Strategic Objectives: The proposed project must align with SFH’s strategic priorities in public health, sustainable development, and social equity.
  2. Innovation and Scalability: Proposals that demonstrate innovative approaches to tackling public health challenges and have the potential for scalability will be given priority.
  3. Sustainability and Impact: The project should have a clear sustainability plan and demonstrate a potential for long-term impact, including measurable improvements in health outcomes for target populations.
  4. Community Engagement: Proposals should highlight strong community engagement and participatory approaches, ensuring that local voices and needs are at the centre of project planning and implementation.

Application Process

Interested CBOs should submit their proposals through the SFH website using the provided link. The shortlisting process will include three stages:

1. Pre-Selection: CBOs will submit an initial expression of interest through the online form, detailing their organisational capacity and alignment with SFH’s focus areas.

2. Shortlisting: Shortlisted organisations will be invited to submit full proposals, including detailed budgets and work plans.

3. Final Selection: After a rigorous evaluation process, successful CBOs will be notified, and funding agreements will be established.

This initiative presents a unique opportunity for CBOs to collaborate with SFH in addressing key public health challenges, improving community well-being, and contributing to West Africa’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
